Oh no, not another meeting!” How often have you said this to yourself, or
heard others say it? If you are a
typical manager, you will spend a large part of your day in meetings. Studies
have found that most managers spend between 25 to 30 percent of their time in
meetings. And, the higher up the
corporate ladder managers climb, the more meetings they attend.
Some of these meetings will be productive, and some will not.
This means that your time will not be spent productively.
Many of the hours you will
spend in these meetings will be in a non-leadership role.
You will participate, but it will not be your responsibility to run the
meeting. Preparing and contributing
appropriately will be your responsibility.
Other times you will be the person in charge.
You will choose who will attend, set and control the agenda, and, most
importantly, influence the meeting’s effectiveness.
This program will introduce participants to the important role that meetings
have in today’s workplace and how to run them
effectively. Included in
the session are guidelines for preparing for the meeting, conducting the
meeting, and identifying the specific behaviors that should be demonstrated as
the leader of and participant in a meeting.
Some of the procedures covered include setting objectives, selecting
participants, planning an agenda, doing your homework, encouraging problem
solving, keeping the discussion on track, and identifying what should happen at
the conclusion of the meeting.
